BREAKING: Denver Broncos DT Adam Gotsis Arrested On Rape Charges
While most teams were busy trying to add players to their roster on the first day of the NFL’s ‘legal tampering’ period, the Denver Broncos may have lost one.
According to the Denver Post, Broncos defensive tackle Adam Gotsis was arrested on rape charges stemming from an incident back in 2013.
The 6-foot-5, 295-pound second-round pick from Australia was accused of raping a 25-year-old woman in Atlanta on March 9, 2013, when he was still in college playing for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The woman, who is now 30-years-old, reported the rape on February 1 of this year, and Gotsis turned himself into Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on March 7. He was charged with strong-arm rape, and has since been released after posing a $50,000 bond.
The Broncos have since released the following statement regarding Gotsis’ arrest (via Denver Post):
“We were recently informed of an investigation into an alleged incident involving Adam Gotsis that occurred in 2013 when he was in college. Our organization was aware of his arrest on March 7, and it is our understanding that no determination has been made at this time as to whether any charges will be filed.
“The Broncos take an accusation of this nature very seriously and will continue to closely monitor the legal proceedings. This issue was promptly reported to the NFL as soon as we learned of it, and we will remain in communication with the league office regarding this matter.”
Gotsis played in all 16 games for the Broncos in 2017, starting 13 of those games while recording 41 tackles and two sacks.
