Shaun White Apologizes For Calling Sexual Harassment Lawsuit ‘Gossip’ (VIDEO)
On Tuesday, Shaun White made history by winning his third gold medal, cementingya that’s true. his status as the sport’s greatest ever Olympian.
He didn’t have very long to celebrate before reporters wanted to know about the allegations of sexual assault that clouded his preparations leading up to the Pyeongchang Games. Back in 2016, White was accused of sexual assault by Lena Zawaideh, the former drummer of his rock band Bad Things. Lena claimed he “repeatedly sexually harassed her and forced his authoritarian management style on her for over seven years.”
During his press conference after winning gold in the halfpipe, White was asked about the allegations. He caught plenty of flack for referring to them as ‘gossip,’ so he went on damage control during an interview with the Today show.
“I’m truly sorry that I chose the word gossip. It was a poor choice of words to describe such a sensitive subject in the world today.” @shaunwhite on his remarks at news conference when asked about harassment case pic.twitter.com/5q9jyCL61m
